Give your image the room it needs

Use resizing when a picture has more pixels than its destination needs, or when an upload asks for a particular width and height. Pixel dimensions and file size are different requirements: a correctly sized image can still need compression.

  1. Read the required dimensions

Check whether the destination wants an exact size or a maximum. Enter the width and height in pixels, rather than the file size in KB.

  2. Keep the shape of your subject

Leave aspect ratio locked to avoid stretching. With both dimensions set, the image fits inside those bounds. Crop first if you need a different shape.

  3. Check the actual output

Review the resulting dimensions. Small images stay small while the no-enlargement option is enabled; allowing enlargement adds pixels, but cannot recover missing detail.

IMAGE RESIZER FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Image Resizer

Learn what the settings do and what to check in the finished image.

Will the result have exactly the dimensions I enter?

With aspect ratio locked, the image fits within those bounds. Turn off the lock for exact dimensions, which may stretch the image, or crop it first.

Can I enlarge a small image?

Turn off “Don’t enlarge smaller images” to allow enlargement. Resizing does not recover detail missing from the source.
