How we process your filesUse PNG when your next step needs it
Convert a JPG to PNG when an editor or workflow asks for PNG. The new file stores the decoded image in a different format; it does not undo JPG compression or sharpen a blurry photo. For ordinary photo sharing, keeping JPG may be more practical.
Check why PNG is required
Choose your best JPG source. If the destination accepts JPG and you only want a smaller attachment, try compression instead of conversion.
Convert without expecting new detail
Save the picture as PNG, then inspect any text or edges that were already soft. Existing JPG artifacts are part of the source image and will remain visible.
Check the larger file before sending
PNG can be substantially larger for photographs. Conversion also does not remove a background or make it transparent; that requires a separate editing operation.
Frequently asked questions about JPG to PNG
Learn what the settings do and what to check in the finished image.
Will conversion improve the image?
No. PNG preserves the decoded JPG image; it does not remove existing compression artifacts or recover missing detail.
Why is the PNG larger?
PNG uses lossless compression, which is often less space-efficient for photos than JPG. Use it when the destination requires PNG.
