Work towards the limit your upload asks for

When a form gives you a KB limit, guessing at a quality slider can take several attempts. Enter the limit here to search for a suitable result. Some images cannot reach a small target at their current dimensions, so the reported output size matters more than the requested number.

  1. Read all the upload requirements

Check the accepted format, file size limit and pixel dimensions. A file below the size limit can still be rejected for the wrong format or shape.

  2. Set the limit and inspect the result

Enter the target in KB and process the image. Compare readable text and important detail, and check whether the result actually meets the target.

  3. Reduce dimensions if quality is not enough

If the output stays too large, resize it or try another accepted format. PNG behaves differently from JPG and WebP; lowering a quality setting alone is not always a useful solution.

Frequently asked questions about Compress Image to a Size Limit

Learn what the settings do and what to check in the finished image.

Is the target size guaranteed?

No. Some targets cannot be reached with the current dimensions and format. Check the result label and try resizing or another format if needed.

Is the file size exact?

The tool aims for a file at or below the limit, not an exact byte count. Quality settings are sampled rather than exhaustively tested.
