BEFORE YOU START

Reduce a large attachment while keeping room for detail

Try the 1 MB preset when a larger photo needs to fit an attachment or upload limit. It is a file size target, not a resolution setting. Your destination may define MB differently, so check the actual limit and leave some margin when it is strict.

  1. Check whether you need the full resolution

For on-screen sharing, a very large image may carry more pixels than necessary. For printing or further editing, keep the original high-resolution file separately.

  2. Process and inspect the useful detail

Use the preset, then compare faces, text and textures. A generous target still may not suit every large or complex image at its current dimensions.

  3. Check the attachment as a whole

Confirm the downloaded size. If you send several photos, their combined size also matters; a per-image target does not establish that the whole message meets its limit.

COMPRESS IMAGES TO 1 MB FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Compress Images to 1 MB

Learn what the settings do and what to check in the finished image.

Can every image reach 1 MB?

No. The image content, dimensions, and format affect the smallest achievable size. The results show when the limit is not met.

I'm sending several photos — does this preset cover the total size?

No. This preset sets a per-file target, not a combined limit. If you are attaching multiple photos, check their total size after downloading. Compressing each file to 1 MB does not guarantee the whole message or upload stays within a separate total limit.
